MONTIEL 122, PADUA 122 FOR THE WBC INTERNATIONAL BELT IN IXTAPA, MEXICO

PhilBoxing.com

Mexican three-time world champion Fernando "Kochulito" Montiel (49-4-2, 37KO's) and his Filipino opponent Jaderes Padua (8-2-1. 5KO's) scaled-in at 55.3 kgs (122 lbs) ahead of their 12-rounder clash for the vacant WBC International Super Bantamweight Title tomorrow Saturday (Sunday morning in the Philippines), at Hotel Azul in Ixtapa, Guerrero, Mexico.

The brave 22-year-old Jaderes "Mayon" Padua, who was not yet a professional boxer when Fernando Montiel defended his world crown against Z Gorres at the open-air Cebu Sports Complex in February of 2007, will have the rare chance of sending into retirement one of the most popular Mexican fighters of the last 10 years. Will he be able to do it?

In fact, "Kochulito" Montiel, who has not looked that impressive in his latest fights, has said that if the Filipino defeats him, he would say goodbye to boxing.

Yes, after being knocked out by Nonito Donaire in 2011, the 34-year-old Fernando Montiel might now be the final chapters of this stellar career. But he has an extraordinary ring experience and he can still swing with awesome power, while Padua showed in his last combat that he could not take tough blows. Just last April, Padua was knocked out by Tomas "Gusano" Rojas, a veteran fighter not recognized has a hard puncher.

Will the 11-fights still rookie "Mayon" Padua, fighting in enemy territory against a 3-time world champion, manage to turn the tide and emerge victorious against all odds... or will the hard-swinging Fernando "Kochulito" Montiel from Los Mochis eat alive the hopeful kid from Albay Province?

The Fernando Montiel-Jaderes "Mayon" Padua 12-rounder for the vacant WBC International Super Bantamweight (122 lbs) Title at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Estado de Guerrero, is a production of Promociones del Pueblo, Kochul Montiel Producciones, Cerveza Corona and will be broadcast on Televisa Deportes Canal 5 in "Sabados de Corona."
