Nancy "La Chatita" Franco wins title in Tlalnepantla, Mexico

Last Friday night, at the Arena Adolfo Lopez Mateos in Tlalnepantla, north of Mexico City, Nancy "Chatita" Franco defeated Ana "La Bronca" Arrazola by unanimous decision, 97-93 and 96-94 twice to win the vacant IBF Female Mini Flyweight title.
It was an intense battle fought all throughout in the trenches, with constant back and forth action in every round, as both fighters engaged in heavy exchange of artillery. Nancy Franco sustained a non-stop aggression, firing one-two combos, up and below, particularly targeting the body of Ana Arrazola, who was countering effectively too, and often times landing the harder blows that stopped La Chatita on her tracks. At the end of the sixth round, all three judges' scores were tied at 57-57 indicating the tightness of the contest. However, after that, Ana Arrazola started to wilt under the pressure, and her punch output slowed down, as she was forced to hold or cover. On the other hand, Nancy Franco, who was 7 years younger than her 31 year old opponent, was having more success at walking through La Bronca's sputtering firepower. In the final round, with the shouts of "Bronca" "Bronca" reverberating in the Arena, Ana Arrazola, summoning every fiber of courage in her body, launched a last ditch effort to score a knockout, but Chatita wisely held on until the bell. Though disappointed, the hometown crowd received the decision well and there was no booing. With the win, Nancy Franco, now 10-5-2, 4KOs, eyes a crack at the regular IBF Female Minimumweight World title, while Ana Arrazola, 17-9-2, 13KOs goes back to the drawing board.
The fight was a presentation of Canelo Promotions-Eddy Reynoso and sanctioned by the Comision de Box Tlalnepantla and by the International Boxing Federation, supervised in this event by Rob Scott of New Jersey.
