PACQUIAO CHOOSES TOP RANK, BUT WANTS BARRERA!
PhilBoxing.com Thu, 28 Dec 2006
Despite a looming court battle, Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao announced that he has chosen Bob Arum's Top Rank as his promoter over Oscar De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions during an afternoon press conference at the Champaigne Room of Manila Hotel hours ago.
Pacquiao, however, indicated that his renowned trainer Freddie Roach will stay with the team.
Arum joined the fighter at the press conference, as well as Cebu promoter Rex 'Wakee' Salud, and the American promoter called out WBC super-featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera to fight the Filipino this April in Las Vegas.
Arum also promised that Pacquiao will not be prejudiced by whatever decision the court hands down concerning the case filed by GBP.
Arum further announced that he is offering $2.5 Million for Barrera to defend his title against Pacquiao this April, although he did not mention whether he would be willing to work with De la Hoya, who promotes Barrera.
Should Barrera turn down the offer, Arum plans on pitting Pacquiao against another fighter on April 28 in Macau, China.
Arum also explained to those in attendance how they like their chances in the on-going court case filed by Golden Boy Promotions against Top Rank, and promised to make Pacquiao an even bigger name in the US and the world.
