Danggod draws with Rapada; Labao KOs O?ate

The main event of the “Bakbakan sa Alabang IV (Slugfest in Alabang IV) Saturday night featuring super-flyweights Celso Danggod and Eric Rapada ended in a technical majority draw when the cut prone Danggod was cut in the right eyebrow for the second time in the fight by another accidental head butt which forced the referee to halt the contest midway in the 7th round.

Danggod suffered the first cut in the 4th round after a clash of heads. The two one-point deduction for every accidental head butt which causes a cut cost Rapada also 2 points in the judges’ score cards. Two judges scored the fight 66-66 while the third judge saw the fight a 67-66 win for Rapada.

In the supporting event, Rey Labao “knocked out” former RP featherweight champion Jeffrey O?ate at 1’ 45” in the 2nd round. While Labao landed hard body shots in the first round, this writer has some doubts as to whether O?ate was really hurt with a blow to be dropped for the count at the time of the stoppage. O?ate went down near the neutral corner to the left of this writer who was sitting (a touching distance from the ring) at ringside. I have to see the video to find out which KO punch, if any was landed at all, dropped O?ate.

Other results:

In the 4-round minimum-weight fight, Keenard Me?oza scored a majority decision win over Richard Ignacio. Two judges scored the fight at 39–37 for Me?oza while the third judge had it at 38-38.

Featherweight Agapito Bolima won by majority decision over Rocky Tune Batolbatol in their 4-rounder fight. The scores were 38–37 twice for Bolima and 38–38.

In another 4-round minimum-weight fight, Elvin Leonardo won by unanimous decision over Reynaldo Trongco. Leonardo dropped Trongco with a well timed right hook just before the end of the 1st round after a furious exchange. The referee continued the mandatory 8-counts after the bell ended the round. While Trongco willingly engaged Leonardo to a toe-to-toe fight to the delight of the crowd, he was clearly outgunned and was again forced to hit the deck by a right straight midway in the 4th round. The scores were 39–35 twice and 40–34.

The 6-round flyweight fight between Ronquillo Salvador and Mark Saloma ended in a technical draw when the cut just below Saloma’s left eye resulting from an accidental head butt in the 3rd round rendered him unfit to continue with the fight. .

Super-flyweight Edwin Dignos won over Ronilo Sermona by majority decision in their 4-round bloody fight. Both fighters had cuts on their faces ruled as caused by punches where Dignos having the better landing average. Scores were 40-36 and 39-37 for Dignos, and 38-38.
