PINOYS VS JAPANESE IN TOKYO

PhilBoxing.com

I was with GAB Chairman Eric R. Buhain in our latest trip to Zamboanga City last Friday , December 8 ( Immaculate Concepcion Feast ) and we were discussing on board the PAL flight ( two hours delayed ) the upcoming and most awaited encounters of the Philippines'finest pugs versus the Japanese tough guys in the ring. The delayed flight schedule as announced by the pilot, had given the two of us ample opportunity to think of some areas of concern for professional boxing in the country and the boxers themselves. On what to do next by the GAB after this Board having approved, passed and created policies well-crafted and defined to be attuned to the current demand of the boxing trend not only here but especially in our continued exposure and victories garnered abroad.

I saw in Chairman Buhain the concern and his desire to really transform our Filipino professional boxers, maybe not all of them , but most of them to become world class fighters. I submit to his personal conviction as a "real sportsman" himself and strongly committed to do whatever it takes for what's best and for the common interest of his comrades in sports.

Among the topics that we had given such focus is the planned sensational fight cards this January 2007 that will take place not in Las Vegas,USA, but this time in Tokyo, Japan. The GAB big boss had articulated to this writer the Yasuo Matsuoka promotions which clearly envisions to realize the inclusion of at least five (5) Filipino top rated regional champions ( others are former world champions ) to be pitted against five (5) most popular and sought for professional boxers from Japan. We have not given yet the green light for this , however, the way I understand the concept of this "big promotion concept" by Matsuoka is beneficial to our Filipino fighters. Why? Obviously the purse money would be good for the boxers. And the chances for these Filipino fighters to seek for their greener pasture in the other side of the Asian region and probability is that , their eventual springboard to Las Vegas. Any professional boxer in order to be known must have the proper timing , good and responsible manager , quality trainings , calculated exposure and most of all the "OPPORTUNITY".

Before we landed in Zamboanga City , Chairman Eric and I had almost agreed to support and help facilitate our boxers to be sent to Tokyo , Japan in preparations for this January promotion.I was informed and being consulted on the possibility of William Magahin's inclusion in the fight cards. If that is so , why not ? I have seen and talked to William in Iloilo City twice already. He is in good shape and training so hard and even ask this representation to give him another time to come back to the ring. And maybe this is it.William is our former WBF welter weight world champion and the way I see him he's very much interested and eager to regain his title and reputation. And I can still easily bet that William Magahin , now the Iloilo's useful youth Ambassador against drug addiction will make it again for the country. If his inclusion to the Japan promotion becomes final , William will be matched-up against as American boxer who is presently staying in Tokyo , Japan.Other Filipino boxers in this card will be former world champion Malcolm Tunacao who just recently won his fight in Tokyo.Others maybe taken from the flyweight top fighters and rated pro boxers of Dante Almario Stable in Muntinlupa City.
We wish that this project be made possible and attain its expected success in accordance with the GAB's agenda. To foster closer ties with our international counterparts and providing an avenue of opportunities in life for their betterment , we mean for the Filipino professional boxers to end up and achieve good quality living by way of "boxing".Everytime a Filipino pro boxer wins , our feeling is not only an additional feather in our cap nor the country's glory and honor. It's a real thing that a boxer will get for his own benefit and personal development. We strongly believed as we always been , that economics still matters the most why we have an avalanche of the youth willing to the extent of giving up their education and to go into boxing purposely to alleviate their means of living. We will support this big promotion in Tokyo , Japan.
