'Rapid Fire' Gonzalez Impressive in Return

PhilBoxing.com

MLANG, NORTH COTABATO--Glenn ?Rapid Fire? Gonzalez takes another victim in his list when he demolished Fil-American William Jorge in three rounds in a heart pounding, bloody encounter last Saturday at the Mlang Municipal Gym in North Cotabato.

True to his monicker, ?Rapid Fire? Gonzalez started the attack at the sound of the first bell shooting six rapid fires, five of which came using his right hand alone. The stocky Fil-Am Jorge answered, bombarding Gonzales with heavy body blows.

Unfazed by the body counter attacks, Gonzales continued his assault by releasing jab-straight combination followed by his patented upper cut and right cross rapids which staggers Jorge. Gonzales move in thinking Jorge will go the canvas but instead received a smacking straight to the face followed by body blows which he successfully repulse.

The fierce fighting was put on hold by the ringing of the bell signaling the end of the first round. But as the second round opened up, the 4,000 jampacked crowd at this small gymnasium stand to their feet expecting a more heavier action to ensue.

Rapidfire Gonzales right away intensified his attack, launching six punches that hit its target accurately. A swelling on the right check bone of Jorge appeared as result of that strike.

Jeorge countered with a whopping left and right-long uppercuts to the torso of Gonzales. The Fil-American pressed more, again throwing 1-2 combinations but Gonzales stood his ground and fought the hard-hitting Jeorge toe-to toe. A whacking left straight snap the face of Jeorge as blood spewed out from the mouth of the Black fighter. ?Rapid Fire? came in to finish the fight but Jeorge refused to go down, instead urged Gonzales to hit him more.

Sensing Jeorge is hard to melt down, Gonzales opted to use his rich amateur boxing skills and change his battle plan. The youthful Gonzales propelled jab-straight combo from a distance. Jeorge left eye started to shut off because of that strategy.

The bell rang ending the second round leaving the hot Gonzales with unfinished business.

With his left eye totally shut off, Jeorge entered the third round with only his right eye to save his vision as well as his chances of winning the fight. More smashing combinations was released by Rapid Fire Gonzales dimming more the chances of his Black opponent to survive.

Gonzales? ferocious bormbardment goes all out in the 4th round and Jeorge?s remaining right eye appeared glassy.

At the end of the 4th round, The Games and Amusement Board In-Charge for Mindanao, Jimmy Mata instructed the ring physician, Dr. Amor Generalla to look at the condition of William Jorge. Mr. Mata declared Jorge unfit to continue as per advice by the ring physician.

Rapid Fire Gonzales improve his record to 3 wins, 1 draw, no loss. This is Gonzales? first fight after a long lay-off due to a bone grafting operation done to repair his broken left wrist.
