NAGOYA, JAPAN
Up-and-coming Toshikazu Waga (13-3, 2 KOs), 104.75, dropped OPBF#2 minimum Rollen Del Castillo (13-5, 6 KOs), 104.25, with a vicious right in the seventh, but bled so profusely that the ringside physician advised the referee to halt the proceedings, and a technical decision (79-74 and 78-75 twice) was awarded to the Nagoya prospect in the eighth of a scheduled ten. It was a significant victory for Waga, now managed by ex-WBC 122-pound champ Kiyoshi Hatanaka, who wishes to have a shot at the OPBF 105-pound belt in the nearest future.
Japanese #2 super-fly Ryuichi Okahashi (13-2, 3 KOs), 117.5, swept all rounds to score a shutout decision (all 100-90) over OPBF#6 contender Boonmee Vidhaykhon (9-2, 5 KOs), 117.75, over ten. WBC#14 super-fly Kohei Ohba (15-0-1, 10 KOs), 118, sank Filipino Sherwin Manatad (15-21-4, 1 KO), 118, at 2:59 of the fourth. OPBF#5 feather Makyo (Masanori) Sugita (22-1-2, 14 KOs), 125.5, pummeled Detchsayarm Loogphaudam (17-25, 10 KOs), 125.75, at 2:27 of the sixth round in a scheduled ten. Japanese #2 fly Masaharu Naganawa (11-2, 1 KO), 110, floored Filipino Gilbert Dela Torre (9-5-1, 2 KOs), 109.5, in the fourth and twice more in the sixth and finally sank him for the count at 0:20 of the seventh round in a scheduled ten.
