NBA -- Doctor clears Rose to play, says source

CHICAGO -- A source within the Chicago Bulls organization told Melissa Isaacson of ESPN Chicago.com that Derrick Rose's doctor has already given the superstar guard the clearance to return to action following surgery and rehabilitation of a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
But the decision to come back rests ultimately on Rose, who reportedly informed the Bulls that he won't suit up unless he can "dunk confidently off his left foot." And according to the same source, Rose is now "dealing with the psychological side of trusting his body."
"That's nothing new, " Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau told the Chicago Tribune on Friday. "He is doing everything there is to do in practice. He's been cleared from that standpoint."
The 24-year old Rose, a former league MVP, tore his ACL in Game 1 of the Bulls-Sixers playoffs series last April 28. He had surgery on May 12 and has since gone through an extensive rehabilitation process. Beginning last February 18, he began participating in 5-on-5 scrimmages with the Bulls.
Without their best player, the Bulls have done exceedingly well earlier in the season, but after a tough February and an injury-plagued March, the Bulls have lost four of their last six outings including the last two. At 34-27, they are No. 6 in the Eastern Conference overall and four games behind the Indiana Pacers for the top spot in the Central Division.
Rose, who was signed to a five-year contract extension worth over $94 million, isn't pressured by the organization to return unless he is 100 percent ready. But now that his doctor has given the okay, the Bulls are sure thrilled about the idea of having their All-Star point guard back in action soon, hopefully sometime in the middle of this month.
In the meantime, the wait will continue. (Homer Sayson)
