NBA -- Pierce shines, Celtics silence Jazz in OT
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Wed, 27 Feb 2013

CHICAGO -- At age 35, Paul Pierce may well be on the twilight of his spectacular career. But the 14-year pro proved that he still has a little magic left in the tank and scored 27 points on Monday night to lead the Boston Celtics to a 110-107 overtime victory over the Utah Jazz.
Pierce, a 10-time All-Star, made 10 of 20 field goals, grabbed seven rebounds and issued eight assists. With his Celtics trailing by a point with 2:27 left in overtime, Pierce scored seven straight points, which allowed Boston to walk out of the Energy Solutions Arena with a moderate upset.
It was Boston's fifth road game in seven nights and pulling out a win under such gruelling circumstances required a lot of hands on deck, which was exactly what the Celtics did as Avery Bradley finished with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals while Kevin Garnett chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Brandon Bass added 15 points and Courtney Lee registered 14 for the Celtics, who shot 41 of 86 field goals and 10 of 27 threes.
"They got a lot of heart. It says a lot of good things. This is just a gut-check win for us. i mean, we were on fumes, and hung in there. It says a lot about this group," Celtics head coach Doc Rivers told NBA.com.
With a 30-27 slate, the Celtics are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with a healthy 6 1/2 game lead over the Philadelphia 76ers, who are still in the hunt for a playoffs berth.
Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with 26 points while Paul Millsap had 16 and six rebounds. Marvin Williams and Al Jefferson finished with 15 apiece for Utah, which dropped to 30-27, seventh in the Western Conference and just 3 1/2 games ahead of the chasing Los Angeles Lakers. (Homer Sayson)
