NBA ALL-STAR GAME - Paul shines, West beats East, 143-138
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Mon, 18 Feb 2013

HOUSTON -- In a showcase of the league's best and brightest stars, the smallest man on the court stood the tallest when the smoke cleared at the Toyota Center here in H-City.
Chris Paul, the Los Angeles Clippers' 6-foot, 175-pound point guard, put on a spectacular all-around effort -- 20 points, 15 assists and four steals -- to lead the Western Conference heavyweights over their Eastern Conference rivals in the 2013 NBA All-Star Game.
Paul, a six-time All-Star, sank 4-of-5 threes and 7-of-10 field goals overall. Although the West All-Stars didn't shoot particularly well above the 3-point arc (12-for-32), they made 62 of their 112 field goals for a high 55.4 percent clip, thanks to Paul 's quarterbacking skills which led the easy points off transition and good open looks.
The 27-year old Paul collected the game's Most Valuable Player award.
And Paul got plenty of reinforcement from his West pals as Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder chipped in 30 points while Blake Griffin added 19. James Harden of the host Rockets registered 15 more and Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs contributed 13. Los Angeles Lakers stalwart Kobe Bryant was held to nine points but the Black Mamba sizzled with eight assists.
It was the third consecutive win for the West stars, who got badly hammered in the rebounding wars, 56-45.
Carmelo Anthony chalked 26 for the East, which sank just 54 of 109 field goals and missed 25 of 39 three-point shots. Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade scattered 21 while LeBron James had a modest 19 points on just 7-for-18 shooting. (HDS)
