NBA -- Green's eight 3s carry Spurs over Wolves
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Fri, 08 Feb 2013

CHICAGO -- Beginning a nine-game road trip without Tim Duncan (sore left knee) and Manu Ginobili (tight left hamstring) wasn't exactly what the San Antonio Spurs had planned, but the past had always shown that this veteran championship team will always find a way.
And so did they Wednesday night as the 2007 NBA champs gamely fought through adversity and beat the Minnesota Timberwolves, 104-94, at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Danny Green carried the Spurs with a career-high eight 3s for 28 points. He went 8-for-12 from above the arc and his 3 with 4:07 left in the fourth quarter gave the Spurs an 88-81 cushion which they never relinquished until the final buzzer.
Point guard Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard also came up big for the Spurs, who nailed 10-of-26 triples for a 40 percent clip. Parker finished with 31 points and eight assists while Leonard had 19 and 10 rebounds.
Though pleased with his team's effort, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich wasn't surprised and told NBA.com, "I think we do have a good confidence level. The system doesn't change when guys are out. If Tony (Parker) was out somebody else would play. They just run the same stuff. We don't change anything. I think that they are pretty used to execution no matter who is on the court. They just execute it. Obviously, you have to make shots. Danny (Green) and Kawhi (Leonard) were pretty good at that tonight."
Nikola Pekovic led the T-Wolves with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Derrick Williams had 15 and 12 rebounds. J.J. Barea also had 15 but Ricky Rubio shot just 3-of-13 field goals for nine points. Rubio who just came back from a torn ACL dished 11 assists. (HDS)
