NBA -- Behind Noah's triple-double, Bulls dump Celtics
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Wed, 19 Dec 2012
CHICAGO -- In his colorful five-year NBA career that has spanned 353 games and counting, Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah only has one triple-double under his belt.
But coming off a terrible loss in Memphis and facing the tough Boston Celtics at the United Center Tuesday night, Noah picked a good time to register his second triple-double, scoring 11 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing 10 assists to lead the Bulls past the Celtics, 100-89, at the United Center.
"His skill set is so unique. It gives you the opportunity to play from the elbows and get to a cutting game. He was very effective in the pick-and-roll and played with a lot of energy. He made the team function at both ends," Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau told the Chicago Tribune.
Making matters worse for the vanquished Celtics was the fact that Noah got a boatful of help from a Bulls team that shot 50 percent from the field, including 5-for-9 from 3-point territory.
Carlos Boozer tallied 21 points and 12 rebounds while Luol Deng, who sparked the Bulls offense with 14 first quarter points, finished with 21.
Trailing 28-23 after one quarter and 79-66 entering the final period, the Celtics braced for one more run. But the Bulls' 5-foot-9 reserve, Nate Robinson, towered above the field and put the Cetlics away for good by swishing three 3s, the last one of which put Chicago beyond reach 95-75 with only 6:02 left to play.
Rajon Rondo had 26 points and eight assists, not enough to carry the Celtics, who shot just 43.2 percent from the field and were outrebounded 43-35. Paul Pierce finished with 16 points while Kevin Garnett settled for 10 and eight rebounds. (Homer D. Sayson)
