WBO GIVES SPECIAL AWARD TO DONG SECUYA By Edward Ligas PhilBoxing.com Wed, 24 Oct 2012 Hollywood, FL -- It was an evening of entertainment during the second night of the 25th WBO Convention at the plush Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino when the proceedings where interrupted and WBO top honchos lead by its president 'Paco' Valcarcel, climbed the staged and requested everybody's attention and then Senor Valcarcel called Philboxing owner and editor Dong Secuya, who was visibly surprised. The hardworking president of the WBO then presented an award, a plaque of recognition, to the similarly hardworking owner of Philboxing who rushed to the stage with his lethal weapon strapped on his shoulder, a Canon camera, to receive the award. Valcarcel told the audience that Philboxing has contributed boxing around the world not only to the fans but to mainstream media. The soft-spoken Secuya was stunned on the award which was personally handed by Valcarcel, assisted by WBO Vice-President for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo, in front of convention participants from around the world and international boxing media. In a talk with this scribe, Secuya said "I have already received numerous citations and awards but this is the most prestigious and coveted so far. This will encourage me further to work for excellence and to give the best to our audience around the globe. Philboxing was created last 2005 to give a constant information on boxing around the world at the same time promote the interests of Filipino boxers. It has now become one of the top boxing websites in the world. Also given with awards from among the Philippine contingent were AJ 'Bazooka' Banal as best fighter of the year for Asia-Pacific (2011), Jerwin Ancajas and Mark Anthony Geraldo, fight of the year, Sammy "Dong King" Gello-ani, promoter of the year for 2011 and Comissioner Aquil Tamano, of the Games and Amusement Board, Leon Panoncillo, the WBO Vice-President for the Pacific was instrumental for these awards.
