SULTAN BATTLES DELIC FOR WBF TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

Pan Asia Boxing Association welterweight champion Dondon Sultan of the Philippines battles Australia’s newly crowned champion Eddie “Psycho” Delic for the WBF welterweight title at the Suntec International Convention and Exhibit Center in Singapore on November 25.

In a fight card dubbed “Showdown in Singapore” promoter John Leung and WBF president Mick Croucher noted that the Sultan-Delic fight will be the first title clash in Singapore since 1989. Delic replaced Solomon Egberime who was injured in
training and had to pullout a few weeks ago.

Delic, the current Australian title holder was ecstatic when Croucher approved Delic as a replacement for Egberime. Speaking from his home in Melbourne, Delic said “I am coming fresh off a win and I am in great shape. Dondon is a tough opponent but I am confident he will soon learn why they call me Psycho.”

Delic won the Australian title with a unanimous ten round decision over Paul Tapley last October 27 while Sultan won the PABA crown with a sensational first round knockout win over undefeated Russian Anton Solopov in Russia last May 20. However, the 28 year old Sultan dropped a ten round decision to Solopov in a rematch last September 15.

Sultan who stands 5’6” and will be giving away two inches in height to Delic who is 5’8” has a record of 13-7-2 with 7 knockouts while the Australian has a record of 11-6-2 with 2 knockouts but according to Leung has never been knocked out in
his career.

Among one of Sultan’s memorable win was when the hard-hitting Filipino scored a stunning one-punch stoppage over Egberime in 2004 after Egberime appeared to be in control of the bout.

Sultan has been training hard at the famed ALA Gym of respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer for his first crack at a world title and is confident of winning although he realizes that Delic is a dangerous opponent.

Croucher said he was “proud of the WBF’s involvement in this historic event. I was scheduled to officiate a WBF title fight in the USA and was pleased to be able to reschedule. Enabling me to attend and witness what promises to be a twelve round war between two true warriors. It is fantastic to work with John Leung (the promoter) who is flying people from all over the region to make this happen.”
