Francisco brings wares to Mexico By Dennis U. Eroa PhilBoxing.com Thu, 20 Sep 2012 ![]() THE Golden Fists of Drian Francisco will be tested as he brings his wares anew to the international arena in an all-out effort to finally nail the elusive world title. "I've learned my lessons well and I am not stopping till I join the elite list of Filipino world boxing champions," said Francisco, the former interim World Boxing Association super flyweight titleholder. Known for his crafty punching, the 5-foot-5 pride of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro fighting out of the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym in Agoncillo, Batangas, will trade punches with Omar Rosales of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on September 29 in Hermosillo, Mexico. "This is a big test for Drian because the winner will fight in the supporting bout for Brian Viloria's defense in November," said Francisco's handler Elmer Anuran, founder of ALA-EH (Association of Local Athletics Entrepreneurs and Hobbyists Inc). Anuran, a sportsman known for instituting grassroots sports development programs, expressed confidence that Francisco will beat Morales (12-3-1, 2KOs). "Drian's last two fights ended in winning fashions. I am confident that he can win in Mexico so that he can join the Viloria card," said the youthful Anuran. Since losing his WBA interim diadem by unanimous decision to Tepparith Kokietgym in Benjamatheputid School, Petchaburi, Thailand last year, the 5-foot-5 Francisco rebounded by winning his last two fights. In a duel dubbed as the clash between two PinoyWarriors, Francisco masterfully took the sting out of ALA's Michael Domingo ( 43-15-2) to score a unanimous victory last September 23 at the Makati Sports Coliseum. Drian's latest victim was Pichitchai Twins Gym ( 22-15-0). The son of former Oriental champion Deo, scored a stunning first round knockout at the Sablayan Astrodome in Occidental Mindoro. With the win, Francisco upped his recordto 22-1-1, 17 KOs. But becoming a world champion remains a dream for Drian, one of the country's popular boxers because of his cool demeanor and rugged looks. "All boxers want to be a world champion someday. Abot-kamay ko na yon thanks to Boss Elmer. But things happened for a reason. I guess the loss against Tepparith was an eye-opener for me," said Francisco. Before his loss to Tepparith, Francisco took the boxing world by storm when he knocked the daylights out of Tepparith's stable mate Duangpetch Kokietgym, who had an unbeaten record in 54 fights. The victory fashioned out before shocked Thai fans in Bueng Kan School in Bueng Kan, Thailand near Laos made Francisco famous. But it was short-lived as Tepparith snatched the title. Tepparith went on to become the WBA super flyweight champion. The Thai fighter recently defended his title against Japanese Nobou Nashiro last September 1 at the Sumiyoshi Sports Center in Osaka, Japan. "I always look ahead and my main priority right now is to beat Morales," said Francisco. From the looks of it, the golden fists are truly golden.
