ALLANIC, FUENTES WIN IN JAPAN
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 10 Oct 2006
Two ALA Boys led the charge of the 6-member Filipino team who saw action last Sunday at the IMP Hall in Osaka, Japan, as Robert Allanic and Rocky Fuentes edged out their separate opponents in contrasting fashion.
The Malabuyoc-born Allanic, who hails from Alumnus, Mambaling, showed no respect for the power of Hiroaki Kusunoki, dismantling the latter via TKO >in the 8th round of their scheduled 10-round fight.
Kusunoki tried to dig into Allanic's body, but the ALA boy deftly avoided >the big bombs and used his skills to knock down the Japanese, prompting >the referee to stop the fight.
ALA Boy Rocky Fuentes, however, earned the biggest win with a split decision verdict over the previously unbeaten Yuki Nasu, via scores of 97-94, 96-94, 94-96.
"Japanese hope Nas has hard punch and toughness but Rocky has more technique and many combination blows. This is Nas' first lost," said Japanese Hakuei Ohno, reporting from ringside.
Another ALA-trained fighter, Louie Bantigue, stopped Satoru Uchida at the 2:05 mark of the opening round of a scheduled 4-rounder.
The biggest casualty, however, was RP lightweight champ Dexter Delada who was knocked down twice and eventually stopped in the second round by Koji Samejima in their scheduled tenner.

Ex-RP flyweight champ Federico Catubay also failed after absorbing a unanimous decision loss to Hiroyuki Hisataka via scores of 91-99, 93-98, and 93-97. Hisataka's quick reflexes and sharp punches, coupled with superior defense and footwork, proved too much for the Filipino. Catubay held out with his toughness, but couldn't catch Hisataka.
However, Wakee Salud protege JR Sollano stopped Hayato Takabayashi in the opening round of a scheduled 10-round face-off.
