"Lil Thunder" Arellano beats Beranza in Ontario Boxing

PhilBoxing.com

Jonathan "Lil Thunder" Arellano outpointed rugged Jose Angel Beranza in the main event of Thompson Boxing Promotion's summer edition of "New Blood" fight card at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California on Friday night, June 22, 2012. The more experienced and battle scarred Mexican journeyman Jose Angel Beranza was like an enraged bull the whole night trying unsuccessfully to cut down the ring and pin down the fleet-footed, accurate, and quick punching Jonathan Arellano. "Lil Thunder"Arellano's running tactics however, particularly in the last round earned him some boos from the crowd. Nevertheless, in passing his toughest test so far, the fast rising super bantamweight sensation, Jonathan Arellano has stretched his unbeaten record to 13-0-1, while Jose Angel Beranza's fight ledger dipped to 35-24-2. Judges' scores were 80-72, 79-73, and 77-75.

In a Super Featherweight 8-round co-mainer, Aalan "Bomber" Martinez, 11-1-1, 7KOs scored an upset TKO over local favorite Ramon Valadez, 11-2, 6KOs, in the 7th round. Both boxers fought a highly technical fight for 6 rounds, flicking jabs and fast combos, but never engaging long with each other. However, at the start of the 7th round, Aalan Martinez suddenly came up very aggressive, fending off Ramon Valadez' probing jabs with strong counter punches and dishing out bombs in rapid succession. Stunned by his opponent's change of tactics, and unable to make his own fight adjustment, Ramon Valadez ran smack into a three-punch left-right-left combinatio, while backing in a corner, and was dropped hard to the canvass. Barely beating the count, with wobbly legs and glazy eyes, Referee David Mendoza wisely stopped the contest and awarded the TKO victory to Aalan Martinez.

Artemio "King" Reyes made a bloody pulp of stout hearted but outgunned Enrique Guttierez in their Junior Middleweight bout. Artemio Reyes' educated punches opened cuts on Enrique Guttierez' eyes and was bloodied in every round starting in the 5th until the last round, but he never gave up trading punches with the more sharpshooting "King" Reyes.
All three judges scored the bout 80-72.

Other results:

Japanese Flyweight Takashi Okada beat Oscar Vasquez by unanimous decision. Scores were 60-53, and 58-55 twice. Juan Reyes defeated Oscar Venegas by unanimous decision in their 6-round Junior Featherweight bout.
