WBO: RES IPSA LOQUITOR
By Edward Ligas PhilBoxing.com Fri, 22 Jun 2012
It's almost two weeks since the controversial fight between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley. Boxing fans around the world are still reeling from the effects of the split controversial decision. Boxing experts, writers and ordinary fans strongly believed that Pacquiao convincingly won the fight. But the Nevada State Athletic Commission has ignored the public outcry and instead stood by the decision of the judges.
However, the World Boxing Organization (WBO), the most prestigious sanctioning body and the leading vibrant boxing organization has created an independent panel composed of five judges to review the controversial fight. After reviewing the fight, the five judge panel scored it 118-110, 117-111, 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113 all for Pacquiao. They were unanimous in their scoring that Pacman won the fight. This proved that the two judges erroneously erred in their scoring. As the amiable and hardworking WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel would say "the results speak for itself" or res ipsa loquitor. The results certainly affirmed the belief of boxing fans that Pacquiao clearly won the fight. But I did not subscribe to the idea about conspiracy theory nor the incompetence and corruption of the judges. They were just off in their scoring on that night and they acted in good faith and everything was honest mistake.
When Pacquaio was reached for comment on the results he just simply said "I am happy that truth came out." Although the WBO has no authority to reverse or overturn the decision, their noble effort is a step forward to build the confidence of the boxing fans and prevent the same controversy in the future.
