A SALUTE TO WBO
By Edward Ligas PhilBoxing.com Thu, 14 Jun 2012
The World Boxing Organization (WBO), the most prestigious sanctioning body and the leading vibrant boxing organization has decided to re-score the split controversial decision between Manny Pacquaio and Timothy Bradley. The controversial decision which resulted to a public uproar and outrage has continued to reverberate around the world.
Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel, the amiable, and hardworking WBO President announced that he will appoint five (5) judges from New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico, who will re-score the bout by reviewing the whole fight and submit its results to Association of Boxing Commission (ABC) and Nevada State Athletic Commission for possible future recommendations. Although Valcarcel clarified that they did not doubt the scoring nor overturn the decision of the judges but at least WBO is doing something to possibly upgrade the standard scoring of boxing. WBO which adheres to the principle of professionalism and absolute honesty batted for the inclusion other judges not only based in Las Vegas in crucial and big fights.
He said that there are excellent judges available internationally and they should be considered. And excellent judging is not a monopoly of Las Vegas judges. Indeed, judges are not sacrosanct but they are expected to perform their task with utmost impartiality.
