PACQUIAO LOSSES TO BLIND DECISIONS By Rod Mijares PhilBoxing.com Mon, 11 Jun 2012 LAS VEGAS -- ?I will tell them I have a good eye doctor,? Bob Arum said when asked what he will tell the judges if ever he sees them. Top Rank Promotions honcho, Bob Arum, scored it 10 rounds to 2 for his boxer. Pacquiao scored it 9 rounds to 3 in his favor. The media and boxing fans in attendance at MGM Grand Garden Arena scored it unanimously for Pacquiao. It was even stated as a matter-of-fact at Bradley?s face at the post-fight press conference by one of the sportswriters and asked how he felt about it. Yet and a big yet, the judges scored a split decision in favor of Bradley and of course, they prevailed. The so-called California Desert Storm by the British media, the undefeated Tim Bradley, stole the championship belt and was announced the WBO world welterweight champion that shocked the entire boxing world. Bob Arum said, ?The only good thing about it was that it was won by a good man in Timothy Bradley.? If he is a good man, Bradley will accept that he does not deserve the championship and will relinquish the belt and fight for a rematch. How Bradley fought is now immaterial. How many punches he threw and connected as compared to how many Pacquiao threw and connected is also immaterial. The judges? decision prevailed and let boxing suffer. It happened in Las Vegas, Nevada in America where officials should set an example for the world to emulate. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Better be in this case as what is tantamount to an obvious embarrassment should stay in Vegas. Only good things deserve a world to see and follow. However, thanks to HBO pay-per-view, it was viewed worldwide and the dirty laundry will be a talk forever and remain a black eye and a stigma to American boxing without doubt and will remain unforgotten maybe until eternity. However, for statistics sake let us talk numbers where judges? decisions are most often times compared for accuracy. Based on compubox, Bradley threw 89 more punches with 839 punches thrown as compared to 750 for Pacquiao. Bradley was more aggressive throwing more punches than Pacquiao. However, Pacquiao connected with his 253 punches for a 34% accuracy that was 94 more than Bradley who connected with his 159 punches for 19% accuracy. As such, being aggressive does not translate to outright advantage but maybe true for the two judges, Robert Byrd and Duane Ford who scored for Bradley (115-113) and the other judge, Jerry Roth, who scored 113-115 for Pacquiao. Going further on statistics, Bradley threw 449 jabs as compared to 258 jabs by Pacquiao. But, where do the jabs go? Most of Bradley?s jabs went in thin air. He only connected 51 jabs as compared to 63 jabs by Pacquiao. Pacquiao connected 12 more jabs than Bradley. Let us talk about the punches that rocked Bradley and tested his chin?s toughness. The power punches. This one spells the big difference. It made you wonder if the judges were watching ?Avengers? or were playing solitaire. Manny threw 493 power punches against only 390 by Bradley and he connected with 190 power punches as compared to only 108 by Bradley. A zooming 82 power punches difference. ?I did not feel even a single punch by Bradley,? Pacquiao said with honesty. ?Look at my face.? Where does Pacquiao?s 82-power punches advantage go? How about his 12-jabs advantage go? In thin air as the judges did not seem to notice. That was about 7.8 punches per round lost in thin air. Boxing fans were so upset that they thought Bob Arum has something to do with it. ?I have been watching boxing matches for 15 years and this is a robbery,? one fan said. ?I will not set foot on a boxing match again.? Bob Arum introduced Manny Pacquiao at the post-fight press conference. This is the man you saw wins the fight but did not get the decision.? It?s Vegas, baby.
