PENDARVIS WINS USBA AND WBC USNBC LIGHTWELTERWEIGHT TITLES

PhilBoxing.com

Hours ago at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, California, Cleotis "Mookie" Pendarvis scored a unanimous decision win over 12 gruelling rounds against tough Robert Frankel to bag both the (IBF) USBA and (WBC) USNBC Light Welterweight Titles. Capitalizing on a blinding speed and lateral movement, Mookie Pendarvis was able to hold the relentlessly attacking Robert Frankel at bay, and frustrate him with quick one-two combos from a distance, and, tieing his opponent up whenever he gets cornered and during heavy in-fighting. Scores were 119-109, 118-110, and 117-111.

Light Heavyweight Hendrix Tyrell, used his height and reach advantage to the hilt to make a target practice out of Loren Myers, who just kept coming back despite being totally outclassed for the whole stretch. Tyrell scored a knockdown in the first, second, and third rounds, and simply coasted along the rest of the way to 60-51 unanimous score across the board, and upping his record to 9 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws.

Russian Anton Novikov just proved too strong and with far superior boxing technique to fully dominate Paul Mpendo in their Junior Middleweight bout to score at shutout 60-53 (from all three judges) unanimous decision victory.

In a very entertaining Junior Featherweight fight, Journeyman Shawn Nichols, sporting a dismal record of 5-10-0, coming into the bout, scored an upset unanimous decision win over favorite Raymond Chacon, 4-1-0. Score was 38-35 by all three judges. Raymond Chacon had obviously better fighting technique and won the 2nd and 4th rounds but got decked in the 1st round and twice in the 3rd round.

Welterweight Asianbek Kozaev improved his unbeaten streak to 21-0, 7KOs, with a quick disposal of James Ventry. A right hook to the chin by the undefeated Russian boxing sensation deposited James Ventry to the canvas in the first minute of the bout, and then, later, a rain of heavy combinations to the body and face on the hapless James Ventry dropped him for good. Referee Pat Russell called a halt to the carnage at 2:18 of the first round.

Carlos Rodriguez, 157.8 lbs. knocked out Ricardo Malfavon in the first round in their 4-round Junior Middleweight clash. Malfavon was 6 lbs. lighter coming into the bout at 151.6.

The Championship Event was a joint promotion of Art of Boxing and Bash Boxing in cooperation with Unum Boxing, and sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission.
