Tepparith and Shimizu Make Weight for WBA Super Flyweight Title Unification in Yokohama
By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Wed, 04 Apr 2012

TOKYO, Japan - WBA super flyweight world champion Tepparith Kokietgym (right) of the Kingdom of Thailand tipped the scales at 114.63 lbs (52 kgs), while WBA champion in recess Japan's Tomonobu Shimizu registered 114.86 lbs (52.10 Kgs), for their WBA super flyweight unification clash tomorrow night at the Yokohama Arena.
Shimizu was declared champion in recess due to the wounds on the bones of his face that he received during his dramatic narrow win over Mexican warrior former champion Hugo Cazares. This is Shimizu's return to action after his battle with Cazares seven months ago.
Meanwhile, Tepparith Kokietgym, 23, a former Muay Thai warrior, had no trouble defeating Daiki Kameda last december in Osaka and this unification war against the taller Shimizu will be his second title defense.
The WBA authorities for this title fight are:
Third man is top referee Ferlin Marsh of New Zealand. Supervisor Alan Kim of Korea. Judges are Michael Lee of Korea and experienced judges Raul Caiz Jr of California, USA and Silvester Abainza of the Philippines.
Talented 20 year-old Filipino Marlon Tapales of Lanao del Norte is among the top 15 fighters in the WBA super flyweight division.
The Shimizu vs Tepparith is the co-main event bout in the card in which Japanese star Koki Kameda defends for the fourth time his regular WBA bantamweight title.
PhilBoxing will be in ringside at the Yokohama Arena to report on this combat for unified WBA super flyweight world title.
