"WE DON'T WANT TO DECEIVE ANYONE": PINOY PRIDE XII IS NOW OFFERED FREE TO THE PUBLIC

PhilBoxing.com

Tagbilaran City ? For the first time in the highly successful Pinoy Pride boxing series, ALA Promotions has decided to make it a FREE TO THE PUBLIC event.

?We cannot short change the public after what happened.? ALA Promotions CEO Michael Aldeguer announced Saturday afternoon in a hastily assembled press con at the JJ Seaside Village. The VIP tickets are already sold out but they can just go to the CPG Sports complex counter to get a refund.?

This was the financially painful decision they made after last night?s meeting where it was revealed that the Genaro Garcia who they negotiated to come here to fight Rey ?BoomBoom? Bautista was a different Garcia with an inferior record.

?This is a huge financial blow for us but we will learn from this mistake.? Aldeguer added, ?We will get to the bottom of this. But we will pay this Garcia the same amount of money. The fight will go on. BoomBoom will fight this Garcia.?

?WE DON?T WANT TO LIE TO THE PUBLIC?- ALA PROMOTIONS

This morning, a few hours after last night?s press meeting and shocking breaking news about the identity of the Genaro Garcia scheduled to face Bautista tonight at the CPG Sports Complex, ALA Promotions set up another meeting with the sports media covering the bout to give updates on their efforts to go into the bottom of this sordid situation.

ALA Promotions patriarch Antonio L. Aldeguer contacted his friend in Mexico, Edmundo Gaytan, who called the Mexican boxing commission about the boxer who wound up here in Bohol.

The response of the commission was that the boxer they allowed to travel and fight here in the Philippines is Genaro ?El Panteriya? Garcia, a lightweight with a 10W-11L record.

He is not the Genaro ?Poblanito? Garcia that ALA Promotions wanted and negotiated to fight Bautista.

Garcia, who attended the meeting said he has more fights not reflected in boxrec. Garcia said he never had a communication with Hugo Correa, the Mexican matchmaker who was in contact with ALA Promotions. Garcia also said that it was Jesus Bolanos who represented him in meeting with Correa. ?I was informed I would be fighting Rey Bautista in the Philippines. I knew this a month ago. I have seen films of Bautista?s fights. I have trained for this fight.?

He will be assisted by Michael Lopez in his corner. Lopez, a Mexican American living in Cebu, said he jogged two miles every day with Garcia since he arrived.

ALA Promotions dished out money for plane tickets for Garcia?s trainer who was reported to be sick and unable to join him here in the Philippines.

?We don?t want to give the public the wrong impression,? Antonio Aldeguer said, ?I am a straight guy. I don?t want to lie to the public.?

?We accept responsibility for what happened,? Michael Aldeguer added, ?We wanted to get a quality opponent for Boom Boom. We negotiated and spent money for it. But we were given the wrong boxer. We will continue to investigate the matter, Hugo Correa has still not made any attempts to contact us.?

QUALITY UNDERCARD MATCHES

Set to appear on the undercards are Genesis ?Azukal? Servania of Bacolod City vs Nick Otieno of Kenya, Jayson ?El Nino? Pagara of Cagayan de Oro vs Frans Yarangga of Indonesia and the intriguing battle between two battled scarred vets ? Michael Domingo vs Marvin Tampus.

Also penned to see action are Mark Acub vs Freddie Martinez, Juren Labordo vs Hector Rojoca, Jimmy Paypa vs Royroy Sumugat, Rey Morales vs Jordan Catubay and Pedro Balaba vs Jerome Casas.
