EXPLOSION EN RIO BRAVO By Jonathan Davis PhilBoxing.com Sun, 05 Feb 2012 Yazmin Rivas. Yazmin "La Rusita" Rivas will stake her newly minted IBF Bantamweight Title tonight against tough Argentinian challenger, Edith Soledad Mathysse here at the Gimnasio de las Liebres, Rio Bravo, which lies east of Reynosa and south of Rio Grande in this Northern part of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The 24 year old Yazmin Rivas, 5'5" from Torreon, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Mexico, scored a split decision over Australian Suzie Ramadan in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico last October 15, 2011 to wrest the vacant IBF Female Bantamweight Crown and improve her record to 23-7-0, 9KOs. She had earlier annexed the NABF Title in July last year, with a 10th round technical decision victory over compatriot Gabriela Gonzalez in Polanco, Mexico City. These two defining wins had remarkably bounced her back from two prior heartbreaking setbacks, first against the popular Jackie "La Princesa" Nava for the interim WBC Female Super Bantamweight Title in May 2008, and, later against Zulina Munoz for the vacant WBC Youth Female Bantamweight Championship in March 2010, both by unanimous decision. On the other hand, 31 year old Soledad Mathysse, 9-3-1, 1KO, who hails from Trelew, Chubut, Argentina, is coming off a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Jackie Nava last August 10, 2011 in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, but earned the respect of the Mexican crowd for her gritty performance. The bull strong Argentinian is not afraid to trade punches but relentlessly pursues her opponent around the ring to wear her down, a boxing style that the Champion, Yazmin Rivas favors and considers as made-to-order for her. This will be a battle of attrition between two tough female dynamos with no reverse gears and who explodes at the sound of the bell. The IBF Female Bantamweight Title clash is an optional defense by the Champion Yazmin Rivas and is presented by Canelo Promotions in cooperation with the City of Rio Bravo, a booming and popular industrial center in this Northern part of the Mexican State of Tamaulipas. with a populace of about 95,647, and sanctioned by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
