LEAR SET TO CHALLENGE DOMINGO FOR RP CROWN!
PhilBoxing.com Fri, 16 Jun 2006
Manila-based Johnny Lear of the Charlie Gamboa Stable will attempt to regain his old title when he challenges Philippine bantamweight king Michael Domingo in an anticipated 12-round showdown on July 15 at the Metropolis Mall in Alabang, Metro Manila.
The former amateur standout Lear, who is ranked no. 1 by the GAB, has been unbeaten in five fights since coming back from a self-imposed hiatus.

"This time, I want to win back my old title. I know Domingo is tough, but I'm very focused and determined," said Lear, who works out under the watchful guidance of trainer Greg Chavez.
Lear took the Philippine bantam title in 2002, decisioning Rey Llagas in Cebu. He relinquished the title and vied for the WBC International crown, losing on a disputed fifth-round technical decision to Roger Galicia underneath the Manny Pacquiao-Serikzhan Yeshmagambetov tiff.
Domingo, a native of Libac, Sultan Kudarat, took the Philippine bantam title with a hard-earned points win over Joel Bauya last year. He has so far defended it twice against Rolly Matshushita and Joel Galicia.
"This will be an exciting fight. We are leaving no stone unturned in making this event an explosive one for the fans," said Charlie Gamboa, Lear's manager.
