DAVAO City -- The Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (Minproba) will again soon hold regular boxing promotions to help bring back the sport alive in Mindanao.
During their meeting held recently here, four members including its president Vic A. Quiambao have pledged already to contribute a seed money to start bankrolling initial boxing promotions.
Quiambao, also vice-president of the Rizal Memorial
Colleges said that he will give P100,000. Likewise, Mayor Zander Khan a.k.a. Alexander Wangkay of Jose Abad Santos, Davao del Sur and boxing promoter-businessman Rey Golingan of General Santos
City will also both share P100,000, while promoter Gerry Palermo will give P50,000.
"But we also need to have a new boxing superstar or a ni?o bonito here in order to lure back the boxing fans to watch," Quiambao said.
Among those also present during the meeting were secretary-general Engr. Rey Buenaventura, boxing manager Tony Dacer, Julius Wangkay (who represented Khan), promoter Vic Adriano and Raides "Nonoy" Neri, who represented Manny Pacquiao.
They also decided to transform Minproba into a corporation and sell stocks to its members.
A meeting is set on June 30 at 2 p.m. in Digos City to further discuss the new set-up. It will be held before the start of Khan's come-back boxing promotion set on that same day.
"We want to show also our all-out support for Khan,"
Quiambao said.
