Suriyan, 115 - Nashiro, 115 for WBC super flyweight world title

PhilBoxing.com

BANGKOK, Thailand - Despite the dramatic flooding hurting the Thai capital of Bangkok, the WBC super flyweight world title fight between world champion Suriyan Sor Rungvisai of Thailand and challenger 2-time world champion Japanese Nobuo Nashiro will be staged this afternoon at the National Stadium here in Thailand.

Both world champion Suriyan (19-4-1, 7KO's) and challenger Nashiro, successfully weighed-in 115 lbs (52.16 Kg), the limit of the super flyweight division, during WBC official weight-in ceremony today at at Nakhonloung, Nonthaburi, Thailand.

Suriyan of Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, became world champion after scoring a close and well-deserved unanimous decision victory over then Mexican Tomas "Gusano" Rojas last August in Srisaket. This will be the 22-year-old WBC monarch's first first world title defense.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old challenger Nobuo Nashiro (15-3-1, 9KO's) of Osaka is ranked 5th in the division and has been Japanese super flyweight champion and two-time WBA super flyweight champion.

Fight promoter Suchart Wisitwutthinanhas confirmed today that this WBC super flyweight world title fight will go push through tomorrow despite the ongoing flooding in this capital Bangkok.

"There will be no problem at all as the Suriyan-Nashiro fight will take place in a safe zone," informed Surachart, adding that finding sponsors for the fight has been extremely difficult as many companies have been severely affected by floods, a natural disaster that has been severely disrupting commercial activities in The Kingdom of Thailand.

In a preliminary combats Filipino Elmar Francisco (15-13-1, 3KOs) of Misamis Oriental will battle Thailand's Yodchanchai Nakornloun (13-2, 12KOs) for the WBC Asian Boxing Council bantamweight title.

Elmar Francisco weighed-in 116 lbs while Asia bantamweight champ Yudchanchai made the limit of the bantamweight division 118 lbs.

Elmar Francisco will be assisted in his corner by international matchmaker and cornerman Brico Santig and head trainer Sonny Dichoso.
