Jaca battles Honmo for OPBF diadem today

PhilBoxing.com

TOKYO--Both RP super-featherweight champ Jimrex Jaca and Japan`s Nobuhito Honmo easily made weight at yesterday`s official weigh-in at the Japan Boxing Commission headquarters in Tokyo, Japan in advance of their 12-round showdown today for the vacant OPBF super-featherweight crown at the Korakuen Hall here.

Jaca, who sparred 215 rounds for this fight, came in at 127.4 lbs while the muscular Honmo tipped the scales at 129.6 lbs at the weigh-in supervised by JBC`s Eiichiro Sameshima.

Manny Pacquiao trainer Buboy Fernandez and Cebuano trainer Robert Bubuli accompanied Jaca at the weigh-in.

Jaca and the group immediately left the weigh-in proceedings to proceed to the nearest Yoshinoya outlet just across the Tokyo Dome, and had Japanese noodles and soup with his team.

Manager Rex `Wakee` Salud, who is accompanied here by his daughter Elaine Joyce and son James Ryan, proceeded to the children`s park right after to let the kids enjoy the rides.

Set to lend support at ringside are manager Rex `Wakee` Salud and boxing division chief Noli Flores.

The Sibulan, Oriental Negros fighter Jaca goes into the fight armed with a 25-1-1 win-loss-draw slate with 12 KO`s while the WBC no. 9 Honmo boasts of a fearsome 27-4-2、5KO`s

Solar Sports, the Philippines' leading sports channel, will telecast the fight live tonight starting at 9PM.

The OPBF superfeatherweight title was recently vacated by Filipino Randy Suico, who has moved up in weight to vie for the OPBF lightweight title.

Topnotch boxing manager Rex 'Wakee' Salud, who handles Jaca's career, said in an interview over the weekend that Solar has thrown its support on the event, noting that even if the fight is not for the world crown, the television outfit remains positive on viewers' acceptability.

The southpaw Jaca (25-1-1, 12 KO's) shoots for his second OPBF title after briefly ruling as the OPBF superbantam champ in 2004. Weight problems forced Jaca to surrender the crown to Japanese Yasuo Kunimi on May 30, 2004, losing on a seventh-round knockout.

"Jaca has done everything in the gym. He's in tremendous shape for the fight. Now, his fate is up to the Lord whether he wins the title against such a talented Japanese in Honmo," informed Buboy Fernandez in an interview.

Honmo, nicknamed 'Powerful Honmo', is ranked WBC no. 9 and boasts of a 27-4-2, 5 KO's record. He is managed by Kadoebi Jewel, who also handles WBC minimumweight kingpin Eagle Kyowa.
