When Mexico's super bantamweight champion Carlos Jacobo, last Saturday's opponent of former world champion Marvin Sonsona, came to Philippines, he did not come only for boxing. Jacobo also came to Philippines to learn about the great and famous country of Jose Rizal and Lapulapu, and about its people, whom he calls "brothers of Mexicans." That's why during his time in the Philippines Carlos Jacobo was delighted to meet different Filipinos. But one of them got the attention of the Mexican warrior: young pinoy boxer Christian Bacolod, an amateur fighter who told Jacobo that he waned to be his friend because he loves Mexican boxing. Jacobo felt so moved that he asked Bacolod if he would carry the National flag of Mexico into the fight ring at the Hoops Dome, a gesture that among Mexicans is considered a great honor. Christian happily said yes as a sign of friendship. Indeed, last Saturday the nervous Christian Bacolod stood by his friend Carlos Jacobo carrying his flag into the ring. That night Carlos Jacobo lost his fight, but won a Filipino friend. Before flying back to his native Guamuchil in the State of Sinaloa, which the hometown of legendary Mexican star Pedro Infante, Carlos Jacobo looked for Christian Bacolod to hand him a precious gift: a brand new pair of boxing boots. The boots that Carlos Jacobo gave to Christian Bacolod are brand new Pirma boxing boots, which is a top brand in Mexico. The boots are brand new and they were autographed by one of Carlos Jacobo's boxing idols, world champion Canelo Alvarez. The boots were precious to Carlos Jacobo, and that was the very reason why he gave them as a gift to Christian Bacolod. He gave them away from his heart. "Christian told me that he will be a professional fighter after some months and I just felt that he is a good kid and I wanted to help him to start his career," shared Jacobo. Carlos Jacobo who is the super bantamweight champion of Mexico told Bacolod that "with these boots and with hard work and dedication, you can be a great champion one day." "It is a great honor and a pleasure to wear these boxing boots," Bacolod said. The day Filipino boxer Christian Bacolod turns pro he will be wearing his Mexican boxing boots in remembrance of his kind friend, a boxer named Carlos Jacobo from far way land of Mexico.
