PACQUIAO-LARIOS PRESSCON QUOTES!

PhilBoxing.com

A press conference announcing the July 2 Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Larios showdown was held today at the ABS-CBN headquarters, hosted by Sev Sarmenta and the Spanish-speaking Dyan Castillejo.

Pacquiao and Larios were seated on high chairs in the middle of a boxing ring, while those who occupied the presidential table at ringside were trainers Freddie Roach and Buboy Fernandez, manager Nick Khan, Mexican boxing agent Rafael Mendoza, and trainer Edison Reynoso.

Wakee Salud, Pacquiao's close associate, was also in attendance, as well as Manila Mayor Lito Atienza.

Here are some of the quotes from the press conference:

OSCAR LARIOS: "I'm faster, stronger than Pacquiao!"

RAFAEL MENDOZA: "Although this is my first time to come to the Philippines, I have always been familiar with Philippine boxing. One of my very first mentors was Lope Sarreal, and I will never forget him. We would like to thank Manny Pacquiao and his managers for the opportunity. Both Morales and Barrera did not want to fight Larios, but Pacquiao gave it to us. Larios will try his best to win this fight. We will be back in July."

EDISON REYNOSO: Thank you to all the Filipinos for the hospitality. I am in charge of the training and conditioning of Larios, and I can guarantee you Larios will be in his best condition and we hope he wins the fight."

NICK KHAN: "When we made this fight we received angry phone calls from three sources--HBO, who lost the chance to ABS, and Wynn Hotel and MGM Grand, who lost the opportunity to Manila.

FREDDIE ROACH: "I'm looking forward to a great fight. We're gonna be in great shape for Larios, same when we fought Barrera and Morales. Thanks for the hospitality."

BUBOY FERNANDEZ: "First I'd like to thank the Lord for making this fight happen, and thanks to ABS-CBN. We have already studied the tapes of Larios' past fights."

ROACH: "I have already talked to Manny, and we are training in the US, and we come back to the Philippines two weeks before the fight."

MENDOZA: "I believe Larios is better than Morales and Barrera, that's why he can beat Pacquiao. I believe he has the stamina and guts to face Pacquiao. Those are the things that Morales and Barrera didn't have.

LARIOS: "I wanna be in superb condition and throw machine-gun punches. My record speaks for itself. I'm gonna do it and that's it. And that's why I will beat him."

ROACH: "Larios is busy, he throws so many punches in bunches. Obviously he's got height and reach advantage. The gameplan is to take it to the body.

ROACH: "Manny is like a son to me. He has two real gifts, he has Speed and Power. These are things you cannot teach. Manny is always improving every each fight.

MANNY PACQUIAO: "I'm hovering at 140 lbs now."
