GONZALES VS BANGOYAN IN FRANCISCO-DOMINGO UNDERCARD By Dennis U. Eroa PhilBoxing.com Mon, 05 Sep 2011 ![]() NO DOUBT about it. The much-awaited clash between former WBA International super flyweight titleholder Drian Francisco and future world champion Michael Domingo will be action-filled, but fans must also look forward to one of the supporting bouts in the card dubbed as "Pinoy Warriors." Dubbed as the Golden Fists, Francisco (20-1-1,16 KOs) trades punches with ALA Stable's Domingo (41-15-2, 19KOs), who is popularly known as Bruce Lee on September 23 at the Makati Coliseum. But before the two world-class fighters test each other in the bout which may determine their future in boxing, Roberto Gonzales aka Calibre of Saved by the Bell Promotions and battle-scarred Balweg Bangoyan nicknamed the Davao Hitman will clash with each other. Gonzales wants to use the slugfest as an springboard for more success as he seeks international stardom, while Bangoyan is hoping to regain old glory. "Like the main event, the Gonzales-Bangoyan clash is a must-see for ring fans," said Saved by the Bell Promotion president Elmer Anuran. "Solar and Saved by the Bell have one thing in mind when we were finalizing Pinoy Warriors. We've wanted to give excellent fights because we owe it to the fans." The 20-year-old Gonzales isn? just a lookalike of former world champion Rolando Navarette. Like the Bad Boy from Dadiangas, the pride of Romblon and Agoncillo, Batangas is known for his relentless attacks and take-no prisoner stance. This early, the 5-foot-6 Gonzales has piled an immaculate 18-0-0, 16 KOs record. He last fought on July 12 at Agoncillo Sports Complex where he posted a technical knockout win in the third round over Amor Tino (12-8-2). "Calibre is willing to get hit in order to hit his foe. Bangoyan is going to be a tough test for him. Calibre is still young but he has a bright future ahead," said Anuran. Gonzales is presently the sparring mate of Francisco, who is hoping to avoid a second consecutive loss. The pride of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro suffered his first loss at the hands of Thai suprise Tepparith Singwancha last May in Udon Thani, Thailand. Bangoyan, 24, hails from Davao del Sur. An orthodox fighter, the 5-foot-6 Bangoyan sports a 16-3-0, 7 KOs record. Formerly a WBC International super bantamweight and Philippines Boxing Federation titleholder, Bangoyan is known for his power punches.
