Entertainer-boxing promoter-turned Municipal Mayor Alex Wangkay, popularly known as Zander Khan, is returning to boxing promotion soon. Despite successfully promoting Manny Pacquiao?s comeback win in Manila six years ago, Khan left boxing to run and be elected as the mayor at his hometown in Jose Abad Santos, Davao del Sur. ?Medyo sinuwerte ako kasi ang ginamit kong pera ay yung kinita ko sa promotion ko kay Manny,? said Khan, who also handled the fights of former World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight champion Gerry Pe?alosa and World Boxing Association (WBA) junior welterweight king Morris East, both from Cebu. Khan, who still has many connections with the international boxing community including Don King, has got already new promising young boxers under his stable. Khan?s brother Julius, who also be handles the ZK Boxing Promotions, is training the boxers in Davao City and JAS.?I want to help discover and to develop professional boxers from Mindanao,? Khan said. He plans to soon have a weekly TV boxing show in Davao City to showcase the young promising professional boxers from all over Mindanao. ?Mag-develop na tayo ng puedeng ipapalit pag-retire na si Manny,? said Khan, although he believes the Filipino boxing icon still has many years left in boxing. Khan advised Pacquiao not to fight world champion Marco Antonio Barrera in the 135 pounds division. ?Dapat sa 130 to 131 pounds lang si Manny lumaban para di siya matalo,? Khan said. Khan is now asking the support of Pacquiao, North Cotabato Gov. Manny Pi?ol and the Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (Minproba) headed by its president Vic Quiambao for the said TV boxing program. ?We need to work together to help our boxers from Mindanao,?
