Tampus to Fight for WBO Asian Title Tomorrow Against a Highly Rated Thai

PhilBoxing.com

BANGKOK, Thailand - Former PABA light flyweight champion Marvin Tampus of the Philippines will have the tough assignment when he disputes the WBO Asian bantamweight title against world rated Thailander Pungluang Sor Singyu tomorrow (Aug 17) in Phetchaburi, Kingdom of Thailand.

The 27-year-old Tamus (27-12-2, 18KO's) comes from a recent 8-round unanimous decision victory over fellow Filipino Jestoni Pepito in one of the preliminary bouts of the Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr. card last Aug 6 at the Mandaue Sports Complex in Cebu.

Ready to combat Marvin Tamus of Bato, Leyte, is high ranked Pungluang Sor Singyu (36-1, 24KOs).

Pungluang, 23, is the #3 bantamweight rated by the WBO behind Abner Mares and Vic Darchinyan.

The dangerous Thailand fighter is also the current WBO Asia Pacific Youth bantamweight champion, whose only defeat has been a very close split decision lose to Stephane Jamoye two years ago in Belgium.

"The Thailander must be very good. But we came in good shape, ready fight and win," commented Ilo-Ilo's Aljoe Jaro, manager of Marvin Tampus at the 13 Coins Hotel in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

"This fight against Pungluang is not an easy one, but we Filipinos have been scoring big wins here in Thailand. Besides, if Pungluang has a good fight experience, Marvin has ring experience has well."

Meanwhile, Marvin Tampus whose native language is Warai-Warai, comented to Philboxing that he feels in good physical condition, strong and in the right weight for his WBO title clash of tomorrow.

"I know that I can win. I feel OK. My fight against Pepito in Cebu (last week) has prepared me for tomorrow. He (Pepito) was tough and heavier than me because he is a super bantam while I am a superfly. Though I can also fight in bantam."

"That is why during the eight rounds Pepito took my punches well. It was a good fight that has helped me. I know I can win," commented a positive minded Marvin Tampus before going for a 30-minutes jog at a nearby park.

This title fight is organized by the well-known prestigious boxing and Muay Thai promotions company One Songchai Boxing.

The Marvin Tampus vs Pungluang Sor Singyu WBO Asia title clash will be broadcast live in the Kingdom of Thailand on Channel 3.
