REY LORITO SCORES KNOCKOUT WIN AGAINST WBA #1 RANKED WUSANI KOKETGYM IN THAILAND (WITH PHOTOS)

PhilBoxing.com

BANGKOK, Thailand - In an awesome thrilling display of guts and heart, unheralded Filipino Rey Lorito destroyed the WBA #1 ranked light flyweight fighter Wusani Kokietgym (38-8-2, 12 KO's) to become the new Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) light flyweight champion today in Bangkok (June 28).

Local hero Wusani Kokietgym began strong scoring with both hands over the smaller Lorito (5-9, 2 KO's), as the Thailander had his attacking mode in the works to exert power over the Filipino fighter.

Those early plans were shattered as the southpaw Rey Lorito retaliated and went on in full action in the second round showing that he had his own plans and had no fear at the highly regarded WBA #1 contender and PABA super champ.

To the delight of the crowd, both warriors went on with furious exchanges when a vicious well-timed right hook thrown by the the Pinoy rocked Thailander Wusani, knocking him down in a neutral corner.

The brave Thai went up but had no weapons to control the bombardment dispensed by the young Pinoy as an uppercut sent the Thai down to the canvas for the second time. But it was no count from the Thai referee and shortly the bell sounded and saved the Thai warrior.

The clash continued furiously with the Filipino being in control of the combat. however, the Thai proved to be still very dangerous with his counter attacks that surprised the Filipino in round five.

No fan in the crowd was willing to blink an eye as both fighters were getting tired from the extremely fast paced clash.

During the sixth round a lethal left hook from Rey Lorito dropped the Thai for the third time. Once again Wusani beat the count and this time he was obviously hurt.

The now bleeding Thai, looking severely beaten stumblingly managed to get up once again. But the merciless Thai referee Wanchai Pongsri astonishingly allowed the fight continue.

It took only a few more seconds during that spectacular round 6 for another vicious combination from Lorito to unfold.

The Filipino Rey Lorito was not going to stop his relentless attack now. Indeed, his final frontal assault fulminated Wusani in dramatic fashion.

It looks as if a thunder had hit the Thai warrior who went unconscious, laying down on the canvas right at his very own corner.

Filipino Rey Lorito, who was declared winner by KO, went on to claim the ropes to greet the crowd, acknowledging the applauses from the Thai fans in the parking lot of the Chaleena Hotel in downtown Bangkok.

"The Thai was very strong. First round I felt his power. But I am strong too," shared the new PABA champion.

"My right (hook) was good. I am happy that I beat the WBA #1. Today is a great day for me," said Rey Lorito, a shy kid from Baguio City, now living in Manila.

Alan Alegria, Lorito's cornerman and trainer shared with Philboxing that "we knew what Wusani is a good fighter. I thought it would be a difficult fight. we won because we trained well."

A smiling Alegria continued his comments "after Lorito's last fight (a split desicion lost to Bautista JP Singwancha on June 18 in Binangonan, Rizal Province), I took him (Lorito) to my "house-gym" in Santa Cruz. We trained really hard. I knew he (Lorito) was in good condition."

For Alegria, a former junior welter and welter Philippine national champion born in Davao, this is a great victory that makes him proud. "This is the second time that I bring a fighter to Thailand. Both times we won. Both times we got the PABA title."

The new WBA ranked and PABA champ Rey Lorito will stay in Thailand till July 1st. That day he will fly back to Manila.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nicolas Omathikul, Vice President of Kokiet Group, the company promoting Wusani Kokietgym said:

"That was a really good fight. Maybe our fighter (Wusani Kokietgym) did not train well enough. It's OK, that's boxing. Boxing is not easy. Boxers have to train well, otherwise things like this happen. The Filipino did so well. My congratulations to Lorito. What is important is that it was a great fight."

Finally, prestigions judge Don Francisco Martinez who flew in from Auckland, New Zealand, to be a judge in this fight said "it was a great fight, one of the best that I have seen in Thailand. Congratulations to the winner."

This PABA fight of the year candidate was broadcast live throughout the Kingdom of Thailand by Channel 3.
