BOOM BOOM DEEP IN TRAINING TO REGAIN LOST GLORY

PhilBoxing.com

The multi-titled Filipino Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista is now in the middle of his tough training for his next bout, a rematch against former conqueror from Mexico Heriberto "Cuate" Ruiz on June 11, 2011.

This year's most anticipated grudge match has boxing aficionados salivating as Bautista and Ruiz meet again to renew the Philippines vs Mexico rivalry set at the Waterfront Cebu City "Hotel and Casino at the heart of the Queen City of the South.

Ruiz beat Bautista during their first match in the under card of the Ricky Hatton vs Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vagas years back. Bautista appeared to be in fighting form the first two rounds but suddenly became a different fighter the rest of the bout bullying his way and abandoning the game plan.

It was later found out that he suffered from a rotten bone in his lead left hand which is his power hand and was immediately operated on. The doctors removed the rotten bone from the wrist and replaced it with another bone from his hip. He had to recover and do rehab for a year before being able to fight again.

According to trainer Edmund Villamor, Boom Boom has just wrapped up his one month and a half stregnth and conditioning training supervised by coach Pio Solon and is now focused on skills training and defense. The brawler from Bohol has now sparred close to 70 rounds of sparring, added Villamor.

Team Bautista has likewise been studying tapes of his Mexican opponent and has pointed out the mistakes Bautista has made to adjust for their upcoming rematch.

"I am very focused right now and I do not think about anything else but my opponent and my upcoming fight." Bautista said. "I am just ten pounds over the weight limit and I feel strong and ready." he added.

"The good thing now about Boom Boom is that he has matured a lot admitting and acknowledging his past mistakes. He also has improved a lot in power making him more dangerous being more explosive. We just have to do some adjustments in defense and improve even more on his jabs," Villamor said of his ward.
