RICKY DUENAS BEATS BALER DIAMOND IN POMONA

POMONA, CA -- In the main event of the Ray Alcorta Boxing and Muay Thai Promotions at the Finish Line Sports Grill here in Pomona, California, welterweight prospect Ricky Duenas patiently weathered the aggressive start of undefeated Baler Diamond, then found an opening and scored two quick knockdowns, and finished off his opponent with just 15 seconds left in the first round. With the TKO win, the pride of South El Monte and Teamster Youth Boxing improved his record to 7-1, 3KOs.
In the other mainer, Alejandro Luna cruised to his 5th straight KO victory in as many fights, with a third round stoppage of Fisher William in their junior lightweight tangle. The two other 4-rounders were closely contested fights, with Featherweight Daniel Franco winning by majority decision over Juan Sandoval, and favorite Alexander Pedrezov getting the upset ax from Rufino Flores by unanimous decision.
The Russian Pedrezov, 142 lbs. was 3-0 going into the fight and was pounding his shorter Mexican opponent in the first two rounds with relative ease that he got overconfident. In the 3rd round, he went down after running smack into a big counter straight from Flores, and never quite recovered until the final bell. All three judges, Sergio Caiz, Ray Corona, and Jonathan Davis scored 39-38 for Rufino Flores.
In the Muay Thai Show, Gabriel Espinosa beat Gustavo Rigali by unanimous decision in a welterweight bout. Joey Lemond won by unanimous decision over Israel Flores in their junior middleweight fight, and in the lone female bout, Flyweight Bianca Marrufo kayoed Andrea Martinez in the 2nd round.
The event was sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), with Anthony Olivas, acting as the Lead Weight Inspector.
