DRIAN FRANCISCO TO BE FETED AT ELORDE AWARDS; CHALLENGES HUGO CAZARES By Dennis U. Eroa PhilBoxing.com Mon, 14 Feb 2011 ![]() HE's proud and happy to join a stellar list of Filipino boxers headed by no less than legendary Manny Pacquiao who will be feted in the 11th Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde Boxing Awards-Banquet of Champions slated March 25, but Drian ''Golden Fists'' Francisco has one wish in his mind -- fight reigning WBA titleholder Hugo Cazares this summer. ''My family and I are deeply honored for the recognition to be bestowed by the family of the late Flash. This recognition will inspire me to continue to strive for excellence not only in the boxing ring but outside the ring. Joining the likes of the Pacman and other Pinoy boxing champions is an experience I'll treasure,'' said Francisco, following a break in training at the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym in Agoncillo, Batangas. The 27-year-old Francisco, who created a storm in the international boxing scene following a 10th round knockout victory over Thai Duangpetch Kokietgym last November for the WBA super flyweight interim diadem formerly held by Nonito Donaire. And his wish may soon be a reality as his promoter and adviser Elmer Anuran, also president of the Saved by the Bell Promotions, said he had already tendered an offer to Cazares camp to fight Francisco either March or April. ??This goes to show that we are serious in our bid to challenge Cazares,?? said Anuran, who said he is waiting for the counter offer from Cazares camp. The offer came at the heels of reports that the WBA headed by the durable Gilberto Mendoza had given Cazares till the end of the month to agree to Francisco?s challenge or relinquish the crown. Francisco is touted as the next Manny Pacquiao by ring experts. A college degree holder, Francisco has been attracting big number of fans due to his exciting style of boxing. The pride of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro sports an unblemished slate of 20-0-1 records including 16 knockouts. ??He has started sparring against bigger and taller foes,?? said Anuran. ??Drian is ready to fight Cazares here or outside the country,?? Anuran said. He said that among the venues being eyed here are the Araneta Coliseum, Ynares Coliseum in Antipolo City or the Batangas Sports Complex. Francisco is unfazed even if it means going to Mexico. ??I?ll fight Cazares anywhere in the world. I want to bring glory to God and country,?? Francisco said. Meanwhile, joining Pacquiao, Francisco and Donaire in the Elorde Awards slated March 25 at the Sofitel Grand Ballroom are Donnie Nietes, Silvestre Lopez, AJ Banal and Jonathan Taconing.
