FROILAN SALUDAR SHINES IN ?THE NEXT PROSPECT VII? BOXING EVENT

Imus, Cavite -- Wednesday night was another successful boxing event held at the covered basketball court in the town proper of Imus, Cavite. This was the third boxing event which started this October. Thanks to the efforts of International Boxing Promoter Sammy Gello-ani (SGG Promotions & Samson Boxing LLC), matchmakers Rudy Perez and Ronald Jerez, Trainer Joven Jimenez, and the Local Government headed by the Honorable Mayor Homer Saquilayan.

The measure of success for these boxing events is the fact that more and more boxing fans come to watch the event compared to the last. It was indeed a treat for the town folks who love the sport.

The second event was covered by Tanduay?s The Main Event last November 20. It featured the boxing prospect Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar who stopped his opponent in the first round.

Last night was again his night. Matched with a quality fighter in Jecker Buhawe who hails from Davao, Saludar showed again his skill and power as he successfully defended his WBO Asia-Pacific Youth Flyweight Title in only two rounds.

In the first round, Saludar was already on the attack mode by pressuring Buhawe by landing solid straights. He rocked Buhawe late in the same round with another solid right which hurt his opponent who was still obviously trying to keep himself up as the bell rang. Buhawe had his moments early in the second as he was able to land 1-2 combinations twice to Saludar?s head and body which seemed to halt the defending champion?s aggression. However, Saludar would not be denied another devastating finish. He sent Buhawe to the canvass with the left hook to the head. Buhawe beat the count and was allowed to continue to fight.
Saludar went for the kill and finished the job by knocking out Buhawe with a right straight to the temple. Referee Atty. Danrex Tapdasan didn?t bother to count and immediately signalled the Ring Physician to attend to Buhawe.

Fans immediately mobbed the ring to congratulate Saludar and take pictures with him. Saludar and his two other stable mates, who also won their respective matches in the under card.

The co-main event featured 10 rounds of boxing in the bantamweight division between Dennis Tubeiron and Edison Beruela. The comical Beruela got knocked down in the first round which set the pace as Tubeiron boxed his way to victory with a unanimous decision win.

The scores were 97 ? 92 twice and 98 ? 91. Beruela was warned twice for low blows and managed to get under the referee?s skin with his crazy antics after every round. The crowd loved it though.

Other results:

Adonis Cabalquinto, Saludar?s stable mate also made short work of veteran and former champion Jori Noda in their 8-round match in the welterweight division. With his barrage of short but strong punches, he hurt Noda in the first round. In the second, he again staggered Noda who almost fell out of the ring. After beating the count, Noda was sent to the canvass for the last time 1:15 in the round. The referee didn?t bother to count.

Another stable mate Jerwin ?Pretty Boy? Angcajas showed tremendous boxing skills and footwork in his 8-round match with Bernard Zaragoza in the super flyweight division. Angcajas won by unanimous decision. The scores were 79 ? 73, 80 ? 72, and 78 ? 74. He frustrated his slugger counterpart by showing great boxing skills surprisingly at a very early stage in his boxing career. I was very impressed with the way he handled his opponent by darting in and out, punching and moving to the side and avoiding Zaragoza?s attacks by his dexterous movements.

Edward Penerio remained unbeaten when opponent Mark Veto quit on his stool before the start of the third round in their 8-round match in the 110lbs division. It?s unclear whether Veto hurt his left hand or the left side of his abdominal area which Penerio hit before the end of the said round.

Aljohn Osabel won by unanimous decision against opponent Vic Racuma. Racuma got knocked down in the first and second rounds. The scores were 79 ? 71 twice and 78 ? 72. The fight lasted 8 rounds in the 123lbs division.

Elbert Guardiario fell on the canvass 1:38 in the fourth round and wasn?t able to continue as the referee signaled the TKO win for Ivan Soriano in their 6-round match in the minimum weight division.

On a personal note, I would like to personally thank International Boxing Promoter Sammy Gello-ani for promoting fights not only here in Imus, Cavite but also in the Luzon area. These promotions are a tremendous help for the young boxers who are aspiring to show their talent not only to the local boxing fans, but also to the boxing fans worldwide.
