Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight boss Malcolm Tu?acao and minimumweight kingpin Rodel Mayol are set to fly to Japan today as part of their build-up for their respective international assignments.
The duo will be accompanied today by their Filipino trainer Brix Flores, will immediately hook up with their Japanese manager Yasuo Matsuoka in Tokyo.
The undefeated Mayol (21-0, 16 KO's), the WBC's no. 1 minimumweight contender, is set to collide with Mexican veteran Lorenzo Trejo (24-12, 11 KO's) on January 28 at the paradise-resort of Cancun, Mexico during the WBC's Night of Champions. The winner of the fight becomes the mandatory challenger to the WBC champion.
Mayol will train at Tokyo's Dream Gym for about 10 days, before he and his team, which includes Japanese trainer Miura, fly to Mexico more than a week before the fight to acclimatize with the Mexican weather. Mayol's manager Matsuoka, and Filipina wife Genara will join the group in Cancun, Mexico after they shall have watched the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales rematch in Las Vegas.
The talented southpaw Tu?acao (19-1-2, 13 KO's), the former WBC flyweight champ, is also set to defend his OPBF tiara against undefeated Japanese prospect Kohei Ohba (13-0, 8 KOs) on February 5 on Nagoya, Japan.
The fight will co-feature with another OPBF tussle, showcasing Filipino Randy Suico defending his title against Japanese Ryuhei Sugita.
