PACQUIAO BOOSTS DRIVE TO END RP'S OLYMPIC DROUGHT

San Francisco, CA -- The formula for synthesizing Olympic gold requires proper ingredients, funding and oftentimes luck.

Filipinos and their sports officials are in need of a plan, for they still do not have the coveted medal since the country began competing in the quadrennial event.

Dating back to the 1928 Amsterdam games, the Philippines came close to striking the mother lode.

2 silvers/3 bronzes in boxing, 2 bronzes in swimming and athletics.

Featherweight Anthony Villanueva (1964 Tokyo ) and light-fly Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco (1996 Atlanta) both gave us the thrill of our lifetime only to lose in the boxing finals.

With the 2012 London Games nearing, the majority of Pinoy (Filipino) sports fans are getting worried our prospects will falter again.

Understandable, since we do have an ongoing historical drought.

Is this an irreversible norm in our sports set-up?

Certainly not.

"Help is on the way with the entry of renowned sports lovers tasked with the awesome chore of minting our first Olympic gold medallion," so says boxing man Hermie Rivera.

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao is generally recognized as the first prizefighter to make a mark in lawmaking. He wants to help end our errant state of affairs in the Olympiad by way of a bill aimed at helping our hopefuls.

Rep. Manny Pacquiao and Manny V. Pangilinan of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines are now on a a hastened-hunt for prospects capable of winning Olympic honors.

It makes for an interesting career path for the freshman solon of the lone district of Sarangani who is in an all-out drive to help fighters seeking ring glory.

"Gagawin natin ang nararapat upang matulungan ang ating mga atleta para sa Olympiada sa 2012 (We will do the right thing to help our athletes for the 2012 London Olympics and beyond)," stressed Pacquiao.

With Manny lending his magic in tandem with noted trainer Freddie Roach, our chances for a gold have exponentially improved.

"It is difficult to win a gold medal. But it's possible with hard work, dedication and proper guidance," Roach intimated to Julian Santos Chua, a 19 year-old aspirant seeking a berth (light- middleweight) in the 2012 Olympiad.
