WBO minimumweight champion Donnie Niete once again retained his WBO 105-lb title with a hard-earned unanimous decision win over game and durable Mexican Mario Rodriguez in Guasava, Los Mochis, Mexico minutes ago.
Nietes started strong in the earlier rounds, piled up points, but visibly slowed down in the championship rounds.
The Murcia, Bacolod City-raised Nietes suffered a gash during the fight, but cutman Dr. Ed De la Vega did a fantastic job stopping the bleeding according to trainer Edmund Villamor.
Scores were 119-109, 118-110, 116-112 all in favor of Nietes.
More to come...
