JAYSON ROTONI LOSES TO WANHENG IN REMATCH FOR WBC INT?L MINIMUM WEIGHT TITLE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 07 Aug 2010
The Philippines Jayson Rotoni has lost by another twelve round unanimous decision in a rematch against WBC International minimum weight interim champion Wanheng Menayothin of Thailand in a fight card held at the Light Infantry Boxing Arena in Bangkok.
The undefeated 24 year old Wanheng improved to 14-0 with 4 knockouts and is hoping to get a shot at full champion Denver Cuello of manager/promoter Aljoe Jaro.
The WBC reported that the International Committee is ?working on making a fight between Cuello and Menayothin happen before the end of 2010. In the meantime, further to Waheng?s August 6 defense (against Rotoni) Cuello is planning to defend his full title on September 25 in Iligan City against former world champ Muhammad Rachman? and said the Committee had approved the Cuello-Rachman fight and said it ?hopes that the winners will collapse in a unification bout before the end of 2010.
Rahman lost his title to Florante ?The Little Pacquiao? Condes, a former fighter of Aljoe Jaro on July 7, 2007 in Jakarta.
Wanheng was coming off a successful defense of his interim title against Ronnelle Ferreras last April 30 when the Thai won another twelve round unanimous decision. He had previously beaten Rotoni also by a unanimous decision in an interim title fight on December 24, 2009 which the WBC itself reported was ?a difficult fight.?
Rotoni himself was coming off a 5th round technical decision over Arnel Tadena on May 22, 2010 when Tadena suffered a cut over his right eyebrow and the ringside doctor ruled he was in no position to continue.
Prior to the Tadena fight, Rotoni dropped a split decision to Remy Cuambot on Febriary 27, 2010.
