THE SHOW AT AGUA CALIENTE By Jonathan Davis PhilBoxing.com Wed, 21 Jul 2010 Saturday night at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs, California, reigning WBO Junior Welterweight Champion Timothy Bradley, 26-0, 11KOs, dealt Argentinian Luis Carlos Abregu, the WBO Number 1 Welterweight Contender, his first loss, via a unanimous decision, with scores of 118-110, 117-111, and 116-112. The "Desert Storm" Bradley, from Palm Springs, CA, wowed the hometown crowd with his big win, and served notice, that he will be as dominant in his foray into the deep waters of the Welterweight division, as he has been in the Junior Welterweight ranks. Switching from southpaw to orthodox stance, using lateral movement, and counter punching with blinding speed, Bradley continuously befuddled Luis Carlos "El Potro" Abregu in almost every round. The gritty "El Potro" Abregu. who had annexed the WBC Fecarbox Welterweight Title last February 2010, with a decision win over Columbian Richard Gutierrez. however managed a few licks of his own as he somehow found his rythmn in rounds 4, 8, 9, and 11, making them at best closely contested swing rounds. But, he clearly edged Bradley in the 12th round as he went all out, perhaps, sensing that he was on the losing end of their furiosly fought contest. In the main co-feature, Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo, 19-1, 16KOs of Mexicali, Mexico, knocked out Haitian-Canadian Joaquim Alcine, at 2.57 of a very explosive and non-stop action first round, to win the vacant WBC Continental Americas Light Middleweight Title and the WBC Super Welterweight Title Elimination fight. Mexican Lightweight Antonio Demarco, still smarting from a disappointing stoppage loss to the late Edwin Valero, for the latter's WBC Lightweight Title, redeemed himself with a second round TKO win over Daniel The Prophet" Attah of Nigeria. He is on the hunt for another crack at the WBC Lightweight Crown. The rest of the bouts: Lightweight, Art Hovhannesyan of Armenia, by way of Glendale, CA beat veteran Christian Favela of Los Angeles by unanimous decision (78-74, 77-75 twice) over 8 rounds to keep his unbeaten record to 12-0-1, 6KOs Gloria Salas of Rancho Mirage, California beat Katarina dela Cruz of Miami, Florida by unanimous decision (40-36 twice, and 39-37 in the special Female Junior Flyweight 4-rounder. Rufino Serrano of Santa Barbara, California, defeated Eduardo Cruz of Los Angeles, by unanimous decision (40-36 twice, 39-37 in a featherweight bout. Joel Diaz of Lancaster, California, debuting at Featherweight, knocked out Rene Torres of Los Angeles in the 2nd round, and, Abraham Lopez of La Puente, California scored a 4th round TKO over Willshaun Boxley of Coon Rapids, Minnesota in their Featherweight fight.
