JACA-DURAN DUEL SET NOV. 26
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 09 Nov 2005
It will be youth versus experience when Jimrex "The Executioner" Jaca swaps leathers with veteran Samuel Duran on November 26 for the vacant Philippine super-featherweight crown at the Lapu-Lapu Sports Complex.
The RP 130-lb throne became vacant after erstwhile champ Bobby Pacquiao won the WBC Continental Americas super-featherweight diadem.
The 22-year-old Jaca, who hails from Sibulan, Negros Oriental but is now based in Cebu, will aim for his third RP title having ruled as bantamweight and super-bantamweight champion in 2001 and 2002.
In 2004, Jaca (23-1-1, 10 KO's) won the prestigious OPBF super-bantam crown only to lose it in his first defense to Yasuo Kunimi in Japan following his failure to make weight. He was subsequently knocked out in the seventh round the following day.
Duran (71-26-2, 35 KO's) will be fighting in his 100th fight against Jaca, but remains confident in nailing yet another Philippine title in addition to the RP bantam and featherweight laurels he annexed in his prime.
Touted as the first man to beat Gerry Penalosa, the Leonil Lazarito-managed Duran remains dangerous as he maintains a healthy lifestyle out of the ring.
Expected to provide fireworks underneath the Jaca-Duran face-off are Benedict Suico, Bonbon Pumar, and Apol Suico.
