REYNOSO DEFEATS AMBRIZ

PhilBoxing.com

The last time they fought at the San Manuel Indian Casino, in Highland, California, hot junior welterweight prospect and crowd favorite, Aris Ambriz, was expected to breeze past trial horse Jose Reynoso, and add the latter's scalp to his unblemished record of 12-0, with 8KOs. However, the fight ended in a split draw decision, and everybody clamored for a rematch. Hours ago, tonight, at the Double Tree Hotel in Ontario City, California, in their much anticipated face off, Jose Reynoso raised his fight game a bar higher and eked out a majority decision win to deal Ambriz his first loss. The fight had its ebb and flow in every round as each fighter alternately had their moments and also got staggered in wanting to impose their power and take control. In the exchanges, Aris Ambriz had success scoring with one-two combos to the head, but Jose Reynoso was also effectively countering with thudding hooks to the body. The three judges' scored 76-76, 78-74 and 79-73. With the win, the Mexican Jose Reynoso, known as "El Nino" upped his record to 12-3-1, 3KOs.

In the co-feature, Aaron Martinez capitalized on his hand speed and lateral movement to continuously outpunch Pavel Miranda en route to a 79-74, 79-73 and 80-72 unanimous decision victory in their welterweight bout. And in the most applauded fight of the evening, welterweights Alex Sanchez and Artemio Reyes, engaged each other in an all-out war for 6 rounds and had the crowd on their feet for most of the time. Artemio Reyes got the nod of the two of the three judges ( 59-55, 58-56, 56-58) for a split decision victory, improving his record to 13-1-1, 3KOs.

It was a short evening for the two opening bouts, with Cleveland Ishe knocking out Antonio Moya in the second round of their junior middleweight pro debut fight, and Eric Garcia scoring a 1st round KO over Daniel Castillo in their super welterweight clash.

The 5-bout card which was televised by Fox Sports En Espanol, was another presentation of Thompson Boxing Promotions, dubbed "New Blood" and sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). Fight Supervisor was Sid Segovia.
