Alvarez Hurt Early But Unfazed to Stop Cotto in 9 Rounds

RINGSIDE FROM MGM GRAND, LAS VEGAS -- Mexican star Saul Alvarez was badly hurt in the first round against Jose Miguel Cotto, brother of Miguel Cotto. However, Alvarez was able to survive the round and get his feet settled in and dominated the fight from the 2nd round on. Alvarez was simply to quick with his feet and too stronger for the smaller Cotto. A barrage of right hands landed on Cotto, who was lying the ropes and not putting up much of an offense. Tony Weeks then stepped in and stopped the bout in the 9th round. This was Alvarez?s first major showcase fight and despite being hurt early has a lot of potential for the future.
