Delgado Hopes to Win in Bangkok Today
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 16 Apr 2010
Filipino Ariel Delgado knows what's at stake in today's fight, so he plans on taking his opponent away when the opportunity presents itself.
This was according to Delgado's trainer Emil Romano, referring to today's fight where his ward is scheduled to face Mongkolchai Singmanasak in an 8-round tiff at the Southern Association of Thailand in Bangkok.
"We're looking at the Philippine superbantam title after this fight," said Romano, adding that Delgado's high ranking in the national ratings is his ticket to an RP title challenge within this year.
In the main event, Thailand's undefeated Saddam Kietyongyuth sees action in this card presented by Daniel Potter's Top Rated Promotions.
This event will be Top Rated Promotions' follow up presentation after it presented the comeback of pro boxing in Singapore back in January.
Saddam, unbeaten in 19 fights with 15 KO's, takes on Indonesian toughie Simson Butar-Butar in the 12-round main event.
The dynamite-fisted Saddam will try to prove his critics wrong following a so-so performance back in January where he had to pick himself up from the canvas after two knockdowns in the opening round at the hands of Korean Jong Yoon Choi, before knocking out the latter in the second round.
The heavy-fisted Butar-Butar, the former WBO Asia Pacific super-featherweight champion, holds two knockout victories over Filipino Czar Amonsot, and should be a dangerous opponent for anyone who wants to trade leathers.
Also seeing action on the card are some of Top-Rated Promotions' rising stars like Padjai Yongyuthgym who will go up against Ardi Diego over six rounds, while Gupee Toprated battles Eddy Comaro in a six-rounder.
The curtain-raiser features featherweight Suakasem Kietyongyuth against a TBA.
