Diosdado Gabi won his first fight in the U.S. by a majority decision over his Mexican opponent Jose Alfredo Tirado in a referee-stopped contest at the Stockton Civic Auditorium in Stockton, California Friday night.
Sources from ringside informed that the fight was stopped in the 4th round when Gabi was cut badly on his left eye near the upper bridge of his nose caused by an intentional headbutt from his rugged Mexican rival. The fight went to the scorecards after the ring physician signalled that Gabi could no longer continue.
Gabi, who hails from Davao City and was ranked No. 5 by WBC and No. 8 by IBF, now upped his record to 26-2-1 with 18 KOs.
After the bout, Gabi told his supporters that he was dedicating his victory to Gov. Pi?ol, to the people of North Cotabato and to his fellow Pinoys.
