GORRES GETS SUPPORT FROM HAWAII FRIENDS
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 29 Mar 2010

MANDAUE CITY--A boxing personality from Hawaii flew all the way to Cebu to pay a visit on retired boxer Z Gorres and extend the love and support expressed by members of the Kalakaua Gym of Honolulu.
Hawaii resident Bobby Villaver, who traces his roots in Carcar, Cebu, was accompanied by this writer on Sunday morning to personally check on Gorres, and was happily surprised that the once-promising fighter can now speak well and even stand on his own following a head surgery conducted in Las Vegas following his winning fight over Luis Melendez.
"I just feel that I should pay Z Gorres a visit, I'm a big fan of his, and I saw him when he was still very young, and I've always known him because I helped take care of his brother Jun when he trained in Hawaii," said Villaver, who came with his cousin Leo Alfafara of Carcar.
Villaver was warmly received by Gorres and his wife Dachess and well as the boxer's parents and kids.
Villaver also handed a greeting card which he had brought with him from Hawaii, signed by friends, members, trainers and fans from the Kalakaua Gym, as well as a modest cash assistance from Hawaii friends.
Gorres, meanwhile, happily informed the group that he is doing extremely well, and is getting daily physical therapy courtesy of the Perpetual Succor Hospital in Cebu City. Gorres' manager Antonio L. Aldeguer sends one of his drivers daily to fetch Gorres and his family and bring them to the hospital for the daily therapy sessions.
"His big wish, which is also his birthday wish, is to be able to walk properly on his own on his birthday this April 18, when he turns 28," said Gorres' mother Zita.
