Cebuano Bert Batawang will get a chance at redemption today when he rematches with ex-IBF champion Ulises Solis in a 12-round title eliminator in Ensenada, Baja, Mexico.
The winner of this bout will get a chance to take on IBF 108-lb champion Carlos Tamara who defeated Brian Viloria recently in Manila.
"After three postponements the IBF Jr. Flyweight Title eliminator between Batawang and Solis is finally set in Ensenada, Baja, Mexico. Inspite of changes on the venue it has not affected the conditioning of Batawang," reported Batawang's manager Sammy Gello-ani in a message from Mexico yesterday. "They finally met today here in Ensenada at the press conference arranged by Zanfer Promotion at the Plaza just in time when we arrived at the venue," added Gello-ani.
At yesterday's weigh-in, Batawang came in at a trim 107.5 lbs, while Solis checked in at 108 lbs.
Today's bout is a rematch of their 2007 encounter in Jalisco, Mexico won by Solis via ninth round technical knockout.
Batawang had vowed to avoid the same mistakes he committed in their first bout, stating that he got hit early and hard and just could not find his rhythm for the fight.
